Evaluating vestibular function in patients with recurrent and persistent vertigo
Evaluation of Cervical Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potentials in Recurrent and Persistant Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo
This study is trying to see how vestibular function differs in people with recurring or ongoing vertigo compared to those with occasional vertigo by testing their responses before and after treatment.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to compare cervical vestibular evoked myogenic potentials (cVEMP) in patients with recurrent or persistent benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) against those with nonrecurrent BPPV. Patients diagnosed with unilateral posterior or lateral canal BPPV will undergo cVEMP testing before therapeutic maneuvers, and follow-up assessments will occur one week post-treatment. The study seeks to determine differences in cVEMP findings between diseased and healthy ears, as well as between recurrent and nonrecurrent cases. The findings could enhance understanding of vestibular function in BPPV patients.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include patients experiencing their first episode of unilateral posterior or lateral canal BPPV.
Not a fit: Patients with bilateral BPPV, recurrent or resistant BPPV, or other vestibular disorders may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved diagnostic and treatment strategies for patients suffering from recurrent and persistent BPPV.
How similar studies have performed: While this approach is observational, similar studies have shown promise in understanding vestibular disorders, suggesting potential for valuable insights.
