Evaluating urine tests before removing double J catheters to prevent infections
Relevance of the Urine Bacterial Culture Performed Before Double J Ablation for Post-operative Urinary Tract Infection Prevention

What this trial studies
This study investigates the effectiveness of performing a urine bacterial culture examination before the removal of double J catheters, which are used to facilitate urine flow post-surgery. The research aims to determine whether this pre-removal test can help prevent post-operative urinary tract infections, which can occur after catheter ablation. Participants will either undergo the urine culture examination or not, and the outcomes will be compared to assess the necessity and impact of the test. The study seeks to clarify existing guidelines that recommend routine urine cultures despite a lack of evidence supporting their effectiveness.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older who are scheduled for double J catheter ablation.
Not a fit: Patients currently on antibiotics for non-urological reasons or those who are pregnant or breastfeeding may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved prevention strategies for urinary tract infections in patients undergoing double J catheter removal.
How similar studies have performed: While routine urine cultures are commonly recommended, there is limited evidence from similar studies regarding their effectiveness, making this approach somewhat novel.
