What this trial studies

This study investigates the effectiveness of Transurethral Resection of Prostate (TURP) in men suffering from lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) due to bladder outlet obstruction (BOO) and underactive bladder (UAB). It aims to assess clinical and voiding improvements using the International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) and maximum flow rate measurements over a 12-month period. The study addresses the unclear role of prostatic surgery in treating detrusor underactivity, a condition affecting many men with LUTS. By evaluating these outcomes, the study seeks to provide insights into the management of LUTS in this patient population.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include male patients aged 40 and older diagnosed with bladder outlet obstruction and underactive bladder.

Not a fit: Patients with insulin-dependent diabetes, prior prostate surgery, or those with prostate or bladder cancer may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide a clearer understanding of TURP's effectiveness for patients with underactive bladder, potentially improving treatment options.

How similar studies have performed: While TURP is a well-established procedure, the specific evaluation of its effectiveness in patients with underactive bladder is less explored, making this study a novel approach.
