Evaluating the weaning process from mechanical ventilation in medical patients
Prospective, Single-center, Observational Study on the Assessment of Process and Outcome of Protocol-based Weaning From Mechanical Ventilation in the Medical Patients
This study looks at how to safely help adults in the ICU stop using mechanical ventilation by checking their breathing and health to see what works best.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to describe the characteristics and factors influencing the weaning process from mechanical ventilation in adult patients in a medical intensive care unit. It involves daily assessments by respiratory care practitioners to determine patients' readiness for weaning based on their clinical stability and pulmonary function. Data on the weaning process, spontaneous breathing trials, and patient outcomes will be collected to better understand the duration and effectiveness of weaning. The study has been ongoing since November 2017 and includes all eligible patients receiving mechanical ventilation for at least two days.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adult patients aged 19 years and older who have been on mechanical ventilation for at least two calendar days.
Not a fit: Patients who are not receiving mechanical ventilation or those who have been on it for less than two days will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve the weaning process from mechanical ventilation, leading to better patient outcomes and reduced duration of mechanical support.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in optimizing weaning protocols, indicating that this approach is supported by existing evidence.
