Evaluating the Usefulness of Amyloid PET Scans for Alzheimer's Diagnosis
Study of the Indications for Amyloid PET Scans and Their Usefulness in the Management of Patients With Suspected Alzheimer's Disease (AD)
This study is testing if amyloid PET scans can help diagnose Alzheimer's disease in younger patients who have unusual symptoms and can't have a lumbar puncture.

What this trial studies
This observational study examines the indications and effectiveness of amyloid Positon Emission Tomography (PET) scans in diagnosing Alzheimer's disease (AD), particularly in patients with atypical or mixed clinical presentations. It focuses on patients under 65 years old, where lumbar punctures may not be feasible. The study aims to assess how negative amyloid PET scans can rule out AD and how early imaging can provide insights into neuronal perfusion, potentially enhancing diagnostic accuracy. The findings may inform routine clinical practices for selecting and monitoring therapies for AD.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older who have undergone an amyloid PET scan with documented indications.
Not a fit: Patients who oppose the use of their data for research purposes will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve the diagnostic accuracy for Alzheimer's disease, leading to better patient management and treatment outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promising results in using amyloid PET scans for diagnosing Alzheimer's disease, indicating that this approach is gaining traction in clinical settings.
