What this trial studies
This study aims to assess the appropriateness of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients with chronic coronary syndrome (CCS) who have not responded to optimized medical therapy. It will analyze approximately 2,500 consecutive angioplasties performed at a cardiology reference university hospital between 2017 and 2020. The study will categorize PCI indications as appropriate, possibly appropriate, or rarely appropriate based on established medical criteria. The findings will provide insights into the quality of cardiovascular care and guide future clinical practices in Brazil.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients with chronic coronary syndrome undergoing elective PCI who have not experienced an acute coronary syndrome within the last 30 days.
Not a fit: Patients who have had an acute coronary syndrome within the past 30 days will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance the decision-making process for PCI in patients with chronic coronary syndromes, leading to improved patient outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: Other countries, such as the United States and Japan, have conducted successful studies on the appropriateness of PCI, making this approach relevant and necessary in Brazil.
