Evaluating the timing of bowel cleansing before painless colonoscopy
Correlation Between Time Interval After Gastric Emptying With Ultrasound Assessment and Quality of Bowel Cleansing in Patients Undergoing Painless Colonoscopy: a Randomized, Prospective, Controlled Trial
This study is testing whether waiting 2 hours or 2-4 hours after drinking a bowel prep solution makes for a better colonoscopy experience for patients.

What this trial studies
This clinical trial aims to determine the optimal waiting time for bowel preparation after gastric emptying in patients undergoing painless colonoscopy. Participants will consume a 1.5L MgSO4 solution and undergo gastric ultrasound assessments to confirm gastric emptying. Based on the ultrasound results, patients will be scheduled for colonoscopy either within 2 hours or 2-4 hours after gastric emptying. The study will compare the quality of bowel preparation between these two time intervals.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients scheduled for elective colonoscopy under general anesthesia.
Not a fit: Patients with severe heart and lung diseases, chronic constipation, or a history of gastric or intestinal surgery may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve the quality of bowel cleansing and patient comfort during colonoscopy procedures.
How similar studies have performed: While similar studies have explored bowel preparation techniques, this specific approach of timing based on gastric emptying is relatively novel.
