Evaluating the safety of skipping axillary surgery for breast cancer patients with chest wall recurrence
Oncological Safety of Omitting Axillary Surgery in Breast Cancer Patients With Isolated Chest Wall Recurrence After Mastectomy
This study is testing if breast cancer patients who have a recurrence on the chest wall can safely skip axillary surgery without increasing their chances of further problems.

What this trial studies
This observational study investigates whether axillary restaging surgery can be safely omitted in breast cancer patients who have experienced an isolated chest wall recurrence after mastectomy. The goal is to assess if avoiding this surgical procedure leads to no increase in recurrence rates among these patients. By focusing on a specific group of individuals with pathologically confirmed invasive recurrences, the study aims to provide clarity on the management of axillary surgery in this context.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients who have undergone mastectomy and have developed pathologically confirmed isolated chest wall recurrences.
Not a fit: Patients with bilateral cancers or those with evidence of distant or regional recurrences may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could reduce unnecessary surgical interventions for breast cancer patients, leading to improved quality of life and reduced healthcare costs.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific approach of omitting axillary surgery in this context is less explored, similar studies have shown promising results in managing breast cancer recurrences without extensive surgical interventions.
