Evaluating the risk of sinus lift failure in penicillin-allergic patients
Influence of Penicillin-allergy on Sinus Lift Procedures: a Retrospective Study

What this trial studies
This observational study retrospectively analyzes clinical histories of patients who underwent lateral sinus lift procedures and received dental implants between 2004 and 2024 at the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya. The primary objective is to determine if patients with a penicillin allergy have a higher risk of sinus lift failure compared to those without this allergy. Additionally, the study aims to assess differences in implant failure rates and complications during and after the procedure. By examining these factors, the study seeks to provide insights into the implications of antibiotic allergies on surgical outcomes.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults over 18 years old who have undergone a lateral sinus lift procedure and have documented penicillin allergy status.
Not a fit: Patients who do not have a documented penicillin allergy or those with incomplete medical histories may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could help identify specific risks associated with penicillin allergies in dental procedures, leading to improved patient management and outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: While studies have shown the impact of penicillin allergies on dental implants, this specific focus on sinus lift procedures is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
