Evaluating the risk of infection in aortic graft patients with bloodstream infections
Risk and Incidence of Aortic Graft and Endograft Infection in Patients With Bloodstream Infection, a Population Based Study in South Sweden
This study looks at patients who had aortic surgery and are dealing with bloodstream infections to see how these infections might affect their grafts or endografts and what factors could increase their risk.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to assess the risk of aortic vascular graft and endograft infections in patients who have undergone aortic surgery and are experiencing bloodstream infections. It will include patients from four regions in southern Sweden who had aortic graft or endograft surgery between 2010 and 2021. The study will evaluate these patients for the presence of bloodstream infections and investigate the associated risk factors for developing infections in their grafts or endografts. Additionally, a risk score may be developed to help clinicians identify patients who require further evaluation for potential infections.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients who have previously undergone aortic vascular graft or endograft surgery and are currently experiencing bloodstream infections.
Not a fit: Patients who have not had aortic vascular graft or endograft surgery or those without bloodstream infections may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could help clinicians better identify patients at risk for serious infections, leading to timely interventions and improved patient outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: While this study investigates a specific risk factor in a defined population, similar studies have shown the importance of identifying infection risks in surgical patients, suggesting potential for meaningful insights.
