Evaluating the Phoenix Pediatric Sepsis Prognosis Prediction Scale
Does the Phoenix Pediatric Sepsis Prognosis Prediction Scale Work
This study is trying to see if a new scoring system for predicting outcomes in children with sepsis works as well as existing methods used in the Pediatric Emergency Department.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to assess the compatibility of the Phoenix Score with established pediatric sepsis scoring systems, including the 2005 SIRS criteria, PRISM III, PELOD II, and pSOFA. It will analyze the advantages and disadvantages of the Phoenix criteria in defining pediatric sepsis and compare the prognostic predictive power of these scoring systems. The study will involve patients admitted to the Pediatric Emergency Department at Akdeniz University who are clinically suspected of having sepsis, without any interventional procedures or blood tests being performed. The research will span one year and focus on understanding the epidemiology and prognosis of pediatric sepsis.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are children aged 1 month to 18 years who are clinically suspected of having sepsis.
Not a fit: Patients under 1 month of age, over 18 years, or those without a diagnosis of sepsis will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance the accuracy of sepsis diagnosis and prognosis in pediatric patients, leading to improved clinical outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: While various pediatric sepsis scoring systems have been utilized, this specific evaluation of the Phoenix Score in conjunction with existing criteria is novel and has not been extensively tested.
