What this trial studies
This study assesses the long-term effectiveness of oral appliance therapy in patients diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). It aims to analyze the impact of this non-invasive treatment on cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. The research focuses on patients who are currently prescribed oral appliances, exploring their adherence and the overall benefits of this therapy compared to other treatments like CPAP. The study is observational and will gather data over an extended period to evaluate outcomes.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults currently prescribed oral appliances for their obstructive sleep apnea.
Not a fit: Patients under 18 years of age or those who do not understand English may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide evidence supporting the use of oral appliances as a viable long-term treatment option for patients with obstructive sleep apnea, potentially improving their cardiovascular health.
How similar studies have performed: While oral appliance therapy is recognized as a treatment for OSA, this study aims to fill a gap in long-term effectiveness data, making it a novel approach.
