What this trial studies
This observational study focuses on patients with known hypertension who are scheduled for minor abdominal surgery. During an anesthesia outpatient consultation, eligible patients are selected based on their blood pressure history. On the day of surgery, their blood pressure is measured, and if it exceeds specified thresholds, the surgery is postponed, and the patient is categorized accordingly. The study aims to assess the frequency of surgery cancellations due to hypertension and the management of such cases.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and over with a known history of hypertension who are scheduled for planned minor abdominal surgery.
Not a fit: Patients who are not on antihypertensive treatment or have a history of hypertensive emergencies within the last six months may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve preoperative assessment protocols for hypertensive patients, potentially reducing surgical cancellations and enhancing patient safety.
How similar studies have performed: While there may be studies addressing hypertension management in surgical settings, this specific approach to evaluating cancellation rates due to hypertension is relatively novel.
