Evaluating the immune response to filarial infections
Host Response to Infection and Treatment in the Filarial Diseases of Humans
National Institutes of Health Clinical Center (CC) · NCT00001230

What this trial studies
This observational study focuses on patients diagnosed with or suspected of having filarial infections, such as those caused by Wuchereria bancrofti and Onchocerca volvulus. Participants will undergo routine clinical evaluations and have their blood samples collected for immunological analysis. The study aims to understand the immune response to these infections and the effectiveness of standard treatments, while ensuring patients receive optimal clinical care. Long-term follow-up will be conducted to monitor changes in clinical and immunologic responses.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include individuals aged 3 to 100 years with clinical evidence suggestive of a filarial infection.
Not a fit: Patients who are not diagnosed with or suspected of having a filarial infection may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of filarial infections and improve treatment strategies for affected patients.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have explored immune responses to parasitic infections, indicating potential for valuable insights, though this specific approach may be novel.
