What this trial studies
This clinical trial investigates how different sitting environments, specifically floor sitting versus chair sitting, affect the well-being and movement patterns of healthy young adults aged 18-35. Participants will engage in two 30-minute sessions of sitting in both environments while performing typical desk activities, followed by a month-long integration of floor sitting into their daily routines. The study aims to determine if floor sitting promotes increased movement and better posture compared to traditional chair sitting.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are healthy young adults aged 18-35 who are English-speaking and willing to participate in the study procedures.
Not a fit: Patients with injuries or conditions that limit their ability to sit on the floor safely, or those with mental states that hinder understanding of the study protocol, may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights into how changing sitting habits can enhance overall well-being and reduce sedentary behaviors.
How similar studies have performed: While there is limited research specifically on floor sitting, studies on sedentary behavior and posture have shown promising results, suggesting that this approach may yield beneficial insights.
Eligibility criteria
Show full inclusion / exclusion criteria
Inclusion Criteria: * age 18-35 years * English-speaking * willing and able to complete study procedures. Exclusion Criteria: * Any injuries or conditions that would limit participants from sitting on the floor in a safe manner, mental states that would preclude the complete understanding of the protocol and compliance, and prior knowledge of the study hypotheses, as it may potentially influence participant behavior and compromise the integrity of the study.
