What this trial studies
This observational study aims to assess the effectiveness of capsaicin patches as an adjunct treatment for patients suffering from complex regional pain syndrome. By analyzing patient records from the pain clinic at CHU Brugmann, the study will evaluate changes in pain intensity over time using a visual analog scale. The research focuses on adults who have been on maximum medical treatment for their condition and were treated with capsaicin patches between 2012 and August 2022. The study seeks to fill the gap in efficacy data regarding this treatment approach.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older diagnosed with complex regional pain syndrome who have received maximum medical treatment.
Not a fit: Patients with incomplete medical charts or those not treated with capsaicin patches will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights into the effectiveness of capsaicin patches, potentially improving pain management strategies for patients with complex regional pain syndrome.
How similar studies have performed: While there is limited data on the efficacy of capsaicin patches for this condition, similar approaches have shown promise in other pain management studies, making this investigation relevant.
