What this trial studies
This observational study aims to assess the effectiveness of the Duke Activity Index (DAI) in measuring physical activity levels in individuals with obesity who are candidates for bariatric surgery. The DAI is a tool developed to evaluate daily living activities and monitor physical functioning in various health conditions. By examining the psychometric properties of the DAI, the study seeks to determine its utility in guiding rehabilitation processes before and after bariatric surgery. Participants will be observed to gather data on their physical activity levels and overall functional performance.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals with a body mass index higher than 30 who do not have conditions affecting their functional performance.
Not a fit: Patients with recent hospitalizations or uncontrolled medical conditions that impair their ability to perform exercise tests may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide a reliable tool for assessing physical activity in obese patients, improving their pre- and post-surgical care.
How similar studies have performed: While the DAI has been used in various health conditions, this specific application in the context of bariatric surgery is relatively novel.
