What this trial studies

This study aims to assess the effectiveness of corticosteroid injections for knee osteoarthritis by comparing pain relief with and without anesthetic, as well as varying volumes of anesthetic. Pain relief will be measured using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) at the time of injection and at multiple follow-up points to determine the duration of relief. The study will also evaluate patient tolerance to the injections and hypothesizes that lower volumes of anesthetic will result in less pain during the procedure without significant differences in pain levels among the groups.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older diagnosed with primary osteoarthritis at Kellgren Lawrence Stage II or III.

Not a fit: Patients with inflammatory arthritis, those with a history of narcotic use in the past six months, or those at Kellgren Lawrence grade 1 or 4 will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved pain management strategies for patients with knee osteoarthritis.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have explored similar approaches to pain management in osteoarthritis, indicating potential for success, though this specific methodology is less commonly tested.
