What this trial studies
This randomized trial aims to assess the effectiveness of the Are You Ready? (AYR) intervention on the sexual and mental health behaviors of sexually active youth aged 14 to 21 who are at risk for or involved in the juvenile justice and child welfare systems. Participants will be randomly assigned to either the AYR intervention group or a control group that does not receive sexual or reproductive health information. Outcomes will be measured through self-reported questionnaires at baseline, three months, and nine months post-intervention to evaluate changes in STI testing, coping skills, and sexual behaviors. The study seeks to provide evidence on the impact of AYR on improving health outcomes for this vulnerable population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are sexually active youth aged 14 to 21 who are at risk for or involved in the juvenile justice and/or child welfare systems.
Not a fit: Patients who have already received other sexual and reproductive health interventions in their local area may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly improve sexual health outcomes and coping skills among at-risk youth.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with similar interventions aimed at improving sexual health outcomes among at-risk youth, indicating potential for positive results.
