What this trial studies

This project assesses the effectiveness of the AFFEKT parenting program, designed for parents of children aged 6-12 with externalizing behaviors, through a randomized controlled trial and qualitative interviews. The study will compare outcomes between parents receiving the AFFEKT program alongside psychoeducation and those receiving psychoeducation alone. By recruiting 200 parents, the research aims to measure changes in children's behaviors and mental health, as well as the parents' strategies and mental health over time. The qualitative aspect will explore the experiences of parents participating in the program.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are parents or primary caregivers of children aged 6-12 years who exhibit externalizing behaviors and can communicate in Swedish.

Not a fit: Patients who are attending other parental programs or cannot communicate in Swedish may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly improve the behavioral and mental health outcomes for children with externalizing behaviors and enhance parenting strategies.

How similar studies have performed: While there are existing parent programs for similar issues, this specific approach with the AFFEKT program is novel and has not been previously tested in a randomized controlled trial.
