What this trial studies

This observational study aims to assess the efficacy and safety of surgical interventions, specifically carotid artery stenting (CAS) and carotid endarterectomy (CEA), in patients with carotid artery stenosis. A total of 100 patients aged 45-85 will be enrolled, with a focus on those with significant stenosis. The study will involve preoperative imaging and laboratory examinations to determine the best surgical approach, followed by a series of follow-ups to monitor outcomes such as cognitive function, quality of life, and complications. Additionally, pathological examinations of removed plaques will be conducted to better understand high-risk carotid artery plaques.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are symptomatic patients aged 45-85 with stenosis greater than 50% or asymptomatic patients with stenosis between 70% and 99%.

Not a fit: Patients outside the age range of 45-85 or those with stenosis less than 50% may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved surgical strategies and outcomes for patients with carotid artery stenosis.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown promising results with similar surgical interventions for carotid artery stenosis, indicating potential for success in this approach.
