What this trial studies
This observational study investigates how treatment for head and neck cancer affects patients' sleep quality over time. It aims to describe various components of sleep quality and evaluate the impact of surgery, treatment, and environment on these components. Additionally, the study will assess the relationship between sleep quality and factors such as obstructive sleep apnea and depression, using surveys and Fitbit data. The findings may inform improvements in patient care and sleep management during treatment.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults aged 18 and older who have been diagnosed with head and neck cancer and are scheduled for surgery.
Not a fit: Patients with pre-existing sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea or insomnia may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to enhanced strategies for improving sleep quality in head and neck cancer patients, potentially improving their overall recovery and quality of life.
How similar studies have performed: While there is emerging research on sleep quality in cancer patients, this specific focus on head and neck cancer and its treatment effects is relatively novel.
