What this trial studies

This study investigates the impact of psychological support on patients who are waiting for hallux valgus surgery, focusing on those who exhibit pain catastrophizing. It aims to determine whether preoperative psychological consultations can improve postoperative outcomes by addressing negative pain-related thoughts and emotional distress. The study utilizes the Pain Catastrophizing Scale (PCS) to evaluate participants' levels of catastrophizing and their potential influence on recovery. By providing tailored psychological support, the researchers hope to enhance functional recovery and reduce postoperative pain.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults over 18 who are independent, living at home, and awaiting hallux valgus surgery.

Not a fit: Patients who do not understand the French language or those under guardianship may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could lead to improved postoperative recovery and reduced pain for patients undergoing hallux valgus surgery.

How similar studies have performed: While studies have shown the benefits of psychological support in other surgical contexts, this specific approach for hallux valgus surgery is relatively novel.
