What this trial studies
This study involves fifty-seven patients diagnosed with internal temporomandibular derangement, who will be divided into three groups for treatment. All participants will receive a proven-effective occlusal splint, with one group receiving only this treatment, while the other two groups will receive additional therapies: one with Rocabado exercises and the other with postural exercises. Before treatment, patients will complete the Temporomandibular Disorders Diagnostic Criteria form, and various assessments will be conducted to evaluate pain intensity and cervical posture. The goal is to determine the effectiveness of combining occlusal splints with different exercise approaches.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 years or older diagnosed with internal temporomandibular derangement who can communicate effectively in Turkish.
Not a fit: Patients with a history of acute trauma to the TMJ, neurological conditions affecting TMJ function, or those who have undergone surgical procedures on the TMJ may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide patients with improved treatment options for temporomandibular disorders, potentially reducing pain and enhancing quality of life.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using exercise therapies for temporomandibular disorders, but the specific combination of postural exercises with occlusal splints is less commonly tested.
