What this trial studies
This study aims to assess the effectiveness of combining UCBL orthosis with toe walking exercises in treating pes planus, commonly known as flat feet. Participants will receive the orthosis and be instructed on the toe walking exercise, with their progress monitored through annual standing foot radiography. The study will specifically measure changes in the talometatarsal angle and calcaneal pitch angle to evaluate treatment efficacy. This observational cohort study seeks to provide clearer evidence for conservative treatment options for pes planus.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals clinically diagnosed with pes planus and a calcaneal pitch angle of less than 15 degrees.
Not a fit: Patients with peripheral neuropathy, infections, rheumatoid arthritis, or a history of foot surgery may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could offer a non-invasive treatment option for patients with pes planus, potentially improving foot function and quality of life.
How similar studies have performed: While there is limited definitive evidence for conservative treatments of pes planus, this study explores a novel combination approach that has not been extensively tested.
