What this trial studies
This observational study aims to assess the perception and enjoyment of music among cochlear implant (CI) users, comparing their results with a control group of individuals with normal hearing. Participants will be evaluated using specific questionnaires and the Meludia music software to analyze their musical abilities. Additionally, a voice analysis will be conducted to explore any associations between musical perception and voice quality. The study will include children aged 6 to 17 years who received their CI before age 3, as well as postlingual adults who have undergone cochlear implantation since 2000.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include children aged 6-17 who were implanted before age 3 and postlingual adults with at least 12 months of CI experience.
Not a fit: Patients who do not meet the inclusion criteria, such as those with additional disabilities or prelingual adults, may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of musical and vocal skills in cochlear implant users, potentially leading to improved rehabilitation strategies.
How similar studies have performed: While there is limited data on similar studies, the approach of evaluating musical perception in CI users is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
Eligibility criteria

Inclusion Criteria: * Minimum age of 6 years. * Patients aged 6-17 years must have been implanted before the age of 3 years (to ensure adequate CI performance). * Minimum 12 months experience with the device * Indications: unilateral (one CI), bilateral (two CIs), bimodal (one CI in one ear and a hearing aid in the other) * At least 80% of electrodes active at the time of assessment. * Fluency in Spanish * Signed and dated informed consent prior to starting any study procedure. Exclusion Criteria: * Not meet inclusion criteria. * Prelingual or perilingual adults. * Disability in addition to hearing impairment (e.g., mental disability).
