Evaluating muscle tone and mobility in children with cerebral palsy

Determination of the Optimal Cut Off Value of the Modified Ashworth Scale in the Evaluation of Gait Performance and Functional Mobility in Individuals with Cerebral Palsy

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to determine the optimal cut-off value of the Modified Ashworth Scale for assessing gait performance and functional mobility in children with cerebral palsy (CP). The study focuses on the spastic type of CP, which is the most common form, and evaluates muscle tone through resistance to passive movement. Participants aged 6-15 with specific inclusion criteria will be assessed to better understand the relationship between muscle tone and mobility outcomes. The findings could help refine clinical assessments and improve treatment strategies for individuals with CP.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are children aged 6-15 with spastic cerebral palsy who can participate in the required assessments.

Not a fit: Patients with severe lower extremity issues or cognitive impairments that prevent participation in the assessments may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance the evaluation of mobility in children with cerebral palsy, leading to more tailored and effective interventions.

How similar studies have performed: While the Modified Ashworth Scale is widely used, this specific evaluation of its cut-off value in relation to mobility is a novel approach.
