What this trial studies
This study aims to assess the local inflammatory response of skeletal muscle to eccentric exercise, specifically focusing on the quadriceps. Participants will engage in a single session of maximal eccentric knee extensions using an isokinetic dynamometer, followed by muscle biopsies to measure the release of specific myokines. The study will involve a controlled environment where participants refrain from physical activity prior to the exercise session to ensure accurate baseline measurements. The goal is to understand how eccentric exercise influences myokine levels in muscle tissue.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are healthy individuals aged 18-35 who are recreationally active and engage in at least 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity per week.
Not a fit: Patients with health conditions affecting exercise ability or those who do not meet the physical activity criteria may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights into muscle recovery and inflammation, potentially leading to improved exercise protocols for athletes and rehabilitation strategies.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific approach of this study is novel, similar studies have explored muscle responses to exercise, indicating potential for valuable findings.
