Evaluating mortality risk factors in coronary artery bypass surgery

The Effect of Perioperative Results on Mortality in Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery: Risk Assessment with Fuzzy Logic

Observational Istanbul University - Cerrahpasa · NCT06812624

What this trial studies

This observational study focuses on coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), a common heart surgery primarily performed on elderly patients with various comorbidities. It aims to identify perioperative risk factors that contribute to mortality rates, which range from 1.9% to 5.3% even in developed countries. By utilizing fuzzy logic to enhance existing risk scoring systems, the study seeks to improve the predictive power of mortality assessments for CABG patients. The findings could lead to better treatment plans and protocols that may ultimately reduce mortality rates.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients undergoing isolated coronary artery bypass surgery at the Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa hospital between January 1, 2020, and July 31, 2024.

Not a fit: Patients under the age of 18 or those undergoing surgical procedures other than isolated coronary artery bypass surgery will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could significantly improve risk assessment and reduce mortality rates in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass surgery.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have successfully utilized risk scoring systems in cardiac surgery, but the application of fuzzy logic in this context may offer a novel approach.
