Evaluating molecular subtypes in advanced rectal cancer
Prospective Clinical Trial for the Evaluation of Radiogenomics: Correlation, Treatment Response and Prognosis in Patients With Advanced Rectal Cancer, Who Undergo Preoperative Chemoradiation
This study is trying to find out if different types of advanced rectal cancer can be identified through biopsies and imaging tests to see how they affect treatment responses and survival rates in patients.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to identify molecular subtypes in patients with advanced rectal cancer using preoperative biopsy and advanced imaging techniques such as CT, MRI, and PET radiomics analysis. The study will also assess the relationship between these molecular and clinical features and the patients' treatment responses following chemoradiotherapy prior to surgery. Prognostic outcomes will be evaluated through overall survival rates over five years and disease-free survival over three years. The study plans to recruit approximately 210 participants over four years.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 20-80 diagnosed with mid-lower rectal cancer who are expected to undergo chemoradiotherapy before surgery.
Not a fit: Patients with confirmed distal metastases or other significant bowel diseases may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to more personalized treatment approaches for patients with advanced rectal cancer.
How similar studies have performed: While similar studies have explored radiogenomics, this specific approach in advanced rectal cancer is relatively novel and untested.
