What this trial studies
This clinical study aims to assess the efficacy of Metformin in patients diagnosed with Parkinson's disease who are currently taking Levodopa. The research will explore the potential metabolic benefits of Metformin, given the emerging evidence that Parkinson's may be linked to systemic metabolic dysfunction. Participants will be monitored for changes in their condition as they receive Metformin alongside their usual treatment. The study is designed to provide insights into whether Metformin can improve symptoms or slow disease progression in this patient population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older who have been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and are currently on Levodopa treatment.
Not a fit: Patients with secondary causes of Parkinsonism, diabetes, or those taking anti-inflammatory drugs may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could offer a new therapeutic option for managing Parkinson's disease symptoms and potentially altering disease progression.
How similar studies have performed: While there is emerging evidence suggesting metabolic treatments may benefit Parkinson's patients, this specific approach using Metformin is novel and has not been extensively tested in prior studies.
