Evaluating lung tumor elasticity using ultrasound

Application of Transthoracic Shear-wave Ultrasound Elastography in the Diagnosis of Pulmonary Lesions

Observational National Taiwan University Hospital · NCT03376425

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to assess tissue elasticity in various types of pulmonary lesions using transthoracic shear-wave ultrasound elastography. It focuses on validating the technique's ability to differentiate between benign and malignant lung tumors based on their elasticity properties. The study will analyze data from a retrospective cohort of patients with radiographic evidence of pulmonary tumors collected between January 2016 and December 2017. The findings could enhance diagnostic accuracy for lung lesions.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients aged 20 and older with radiographic evidence of pulmonary tumors.

Not a fit: Patients under 20 years old or those unable to hold their breath for 5 seconds may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve the ability to accurately differentiate between benign and malignant lung tumors, leading to better patient management.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using elastography for similar applications, suggesting potential success for this approach.
