What this trial studies

This observational study aims to evaluate the serum levels of Krebs von den Lungen-6 (KL-6) in patients with rheumatoid arthritis-associated interstitial lung disease (RA-ILD). KL-6 is a glycoprotein that serves as a marker for pulmonary epithelial cell injury and has been associated with disease severity in various interstitial lung diseases. The study will assess the potential of KL-6 as a diagnostic and prognostic tool specifically for RA-ILD, which is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. By understanding KL-6 levels, the study seeks to improve monitoring and treatment responses for affected patients.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis who also have interstitial lung disease.

Not a fit: Patients with rheumatoid arthritis who do not have interstitial lung disease or those with evidence of infection will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide a valuable diagnostic and prognostic tool for managing lung disease in rheumatoid arthritis patients.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown KL-6 to be a valuable marker in other interstitial lung diseases, suggesting potential success in this novel application for RA-ILD.
