What this trial studies

This study compares the levels of DEL-1 and IL-17 in the aqueous humor of diabetic cataract patients to those of non-diabetic patients to understand the biochemical effects of diabetes-related inflammation in the eye. DEL-1 is involved in regulating inflammation and maintaining vascular health, while IL-17 is a cytokine that promotes inflammation. By analyzing these markers, the study aims to shed light on the inflammatory processes associated with cataracts in diabetic individuals. The findings could help in developing targeted therapies for diabetic eye diseases.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include individuals diagnosed with cataracts who have had Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus for at least 5 years.

Not a fit: Patients with other ocular pathologies, autoimmune diseases, or those who have undergone previous eye surgeries may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved understanding and treatment options for cataracts in diabetic patients.

How similar studies have performed: While similar studies have explored inflammation in diabetic eye diseases, the specific focus on DEL-1 and IL-17 in this context is relatively novel.
