What this trial studies

This observational study aims to investigate the mechanisms by which obesity contributes to pancreatic cancer development in minority populations, specifically African American and Non-Hispanic White adults. Participants will be recruited from gastrointestinal clinics and will undergo blood and tissue sample collection, as well as medical imaging. The study seeks to identify unique biological profiles associated with pancreatic tumors and adipose tissue dysfunction, with the goal of predicting therapeutic responses and targeting obesity-related pathways in pancreatic cancer progression. The research will utilize a multidisciplinary approach involving in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo techniques.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older who self-identify as African American or Non-Hispanic White and have a clinical suspicion or diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.

Not a fit: Patients under 18 years of age or those without a suspicion or diagnosis of pancreatic cancer will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved understanding and treatment strategies for pancreatic cancer in obese minority populations.

How similar studies have performed: While there is ongoing research into obesity and cancer, this specific focus on minority populations and pancreatic cancer mechanisms is relatively novel.
