Evaluating how genetic variation affects insulin secretion in healthy individuals

Effect of Genetic Variation in the GLP-1 Receptor on Beta-cell Function During Fasting and Hyperglycemia in Nondiabetic Humans

What this trial studies

This study investigates the impact of genetic variations in the GLP-1 receptor gene on insulin secretion during fasting and elevated blood sugar levels in nondiabetic individuals. It aims to recruit 40 participants aged 25-65, with a focus on those with specific genotypes related to the GLP1R gene. Participants will receive either saline or Exendin-9,39 to assess the effects on beta-cell function. The findings could enhance our understanding of insulin regulation in healthy individuals.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are nondiabetic individuals aged 25-65 with specific genetic variations in the GLP1R gene.

Not a fit: Patients outside the age range of 25-65 or those with diabetes will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved insights into insulin secretion mechanisms, potentially influencing future diabetes prevention strategies.

How similar studies have performed: While studies on genetic variations affecting insulin secretion exist, this specific approach focusing on the GLP1R gene in healthy individuals is relatively novel.
