What this trial studies
This study aims to assess the effectiveness of different Hepatitis C virus (HCV) screening strategies in Social Insertion Centers, where individuals serve alternative prison sentences. Participants will be randomly assigned to either perform a home self-test or receive testing on-site at the center. The study will also gather sociodemographic and clinical data to understand the prevalence and characteristics of HCV infection in this at-risk population. The goal is to improve access to diagnosis and treatment for those affected by HCV.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals attending Social Insertion Centers for the first time with alternative sentences to prison.
Not a fit: Patients who refuse to participate or are minors under 18 or over 79 years of age may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance early detection and treatment of Hepatitis C among vulnerable populations.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with decentralized testing approaches for infectious diseases, indicating potential for this method.
