Evaluating heart function in patients with advanced heart failure
Cardiac Autonomic Dysfunction As a Sign of Irreversible Advanced Heart Failure
This study is testing if heart function can improve over time in patients with advanced heart failure by looking at changes in their heart rate after they leave the hospital.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to investigate whether autonomic dysfunction in patients with advanced heart failure can improve over time. Patients admitted with acute decompensated heart failure will undergo brief heart monitoring upon admission and before discharge to assess changes in heart rate variability. The study will follow these patients for six months post-discharge to gather data on their condition and recovery. The hypothesis is that autonomic dysfunction remains irreversible in end-stage heart failure patients.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older who are admitted with acute decompensated heart failure.
Not a fit: Patients with pacemakers or those who do not have sinus rhythm or atrial fibrillation may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights into the prognosis of heart failure patients and inform treatment strategies.
How similar studies have performed: While similar studies have explored heart monitoring in heart failure, this specific approach focusing on autonomic dysfunction in advanced heart failure is relatively novel.
