What this trial studies
This study investigates the effectiveness of a structured financial navigation program aimed at reducing financial catastrophe and distress among cancer patients in Nigeria. Participants will complete surveys regarding their demographics, clinical history, and socioeconomic status, as well as report costs related to their cancer care. The study will compare outcomes between those who receive financial navigation support and those who do not, assessing the program's impact on financial burdens and overall well-being.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older who have recently been diagnosed with breast, colorectal, or prostate cancer and are candidates for definitive treatment.
Not a fit: Patients who have already started definitive cancer treatment or are only receiving best supportive care may not benefit from this program.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly alleviate the financial burdens faced by cancer patients in Nigeria, improving their access to necessary treatments.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies in the United States have shown that structured financial navigation programs can effectively reduce financial distress for cancer patients, suggesting potential for success in this novel context.
