Evaluating fall risk in patients after hip and knee joint replacement
Stratification of Fall Risk in a Rehabilitation Department Through Tools That Evaluate Postural Balance and Movement Capacity in the Preoperative Period
This study is testing different ways to check if patients who have hip and knee joint replacement surgery are at risk of falling, to help keep them safer during their recovery.

What this trial studies
This study aims to identify functional assessment tools that predict the risk of falling in patients undergoing hip and knee joint replacement surgery. Upon admission to the orthopedic department, patients will undergo various mobility and stability assessments. The results will be correlated with established clinical evaluation scales for fall risk and the actual number of falls that occur during hospitalization and rehabilitation. This prospective interventional cohort study seeks to improve fall risk stratification and prevention strategies.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients aged 50 to 85 who are scheduled for hip or knee joint replacement surgery.
Not a fit: Patients who are non-ambulatory, have serious neurological or psychiatric conditions, or have vestibular deficits may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could significantly reduce the incidence of falls in post-operative patients, enhancing their safety and recovery.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in using functional assessments to predict fall risk in similar patient populations, indicating that this approach is supported by existing research.
