Evaluating factors predicting neurologic deficits during carotid endarterectomy with regional anesthesia

Preoperative, Intraoperative and Postoperative Predictors of Post-clamping Neurologic Deficits During Carotid Endarterectomy With Regional Anesthesia

What this trial studies

This observational study focuses on patients undergoing carotid endarterectomy (CEA) to identify predictive factors associated with neurologic deficits that may occur during the procedure due to cerebral hypoperfusion. It involves analyzing consecutive patients from a tertiary referral center who experience neurologic alterations after carotid artery clamping, as well as a control group without such alterations. The study aims to understand the perioperative implications of these deficits and improve patient outcomes during CEA performed under regional anesthesia.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients scheduled for carotid endarterectomy under regional anesthesia who may experience neurologic deficits during the procedure.

Not a fit: Patients undergoing carotid stenting or those not receiving regional anesthesia may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance the safety and effectiveness of carotid endarterectomy by identifying at-risk patients and potentially reducing the incidence of postoperative neurologic deficits.

How similar studies have performed: While this study addresses a specific aspect of carotid endarterectomy, similar studies have shown varying degrees of success in identifying risk factors for neurologic deficits during surgical procedures.
