Evaluating echocardiographic techniques in adults with left ventricular hypertrophy
Characteristics of the Multi-Modality Echocardiographic Techniques in Chinese Adults With Pathological Left Ventricular Hypertrophy - a Prospective, Multicenter, Clinical Study (MET-LVH Study)
This study is testing different heart ultrasound techniques in adults with left ventricular hypertrophy to see if they can help identify the causes of this condition and improve patient care.

What this trial studies
This multicenter clinical study aims to assess various echocardiographic parameters in adults diagnosed with different forms of pathological left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH). The study investigates the correlation between these echocardiographic parameters and the underlying causes of LVH, which may include conditions like hypertensive heart disease and cardiac amyloidosis. By identifying specific echocardiographic features associated with different etiologies, the research seeks to enhance early diagnosis and risk assessment for patients with LVH. This observational approach will provide valuable insights into the heterogeneity of LVH and its implications for patient management.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older with a confirmed diagnosis of pathological left ventricular hypertrophy.
Not a fit: Patients with severe valvular disease, congenital heart disease, or other specific cardiovascular conditions that cause ventricular hypertrophy may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved early identification and management of patients with left ventricular hypertrophy, potentially reducing mortality and enhancing patient outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: While there is ongoing research in echocardiographic techniques for LVH, this study's specific focus on multi-modality parameters in various etiologies is relatively novel.
Eligibility criteria
Show full inclusion / exclusion criteria
Inclusion Criteria: * Age ≥ 18 years old; * A wall thickness ≥ 12mm in one or more LV myocardial segments as measured by 2D echocardiography. * Patients with definite diagnosis of hypertensive heart disease, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, cardiac amyloidosis or Fabry disease. Exclusion Criteria: * Patients with severe valvular disease, congenital heart disease, aortic coarctation, multiple Takayasu arteritis, or other cardiovascular diseases that may cause ventricular hypertrophy; * Hypertrophy of myocardium caused by high intensity exercise; * Poor ultrasonic image quality, which cannot meet analysis requirement.
