What this trial studies

This clinical trial aims to assess the impact of dual-task exercises on both motor and cognitive functions in individuals diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Participants will be randomly assigned to either a Pulmonary Rehabilitation Group or a Dual Task Exercises Group, where the latter will engage in walking and cycling exercises combined with cognitive tasks over an 8-week program. The study will compare the effects of these interventions on cardiopulmonary and musculoskeletal parameters, addressing the cognitive challenges faced by COPD patients during multitasking activities. The research seeks to fill a gap in understanding how dual-task performance differs between COPD patients and healthy individuals.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals aged 40-75 years diagnosed with stable COPD.

Not a fit: Patients experiencing COPD exacerbations, cognitive impairments, or other significant comorbidities may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance the effectiveness of pulmonary rehabilitation and improve the quality of life for patients with COPD.

How similar studies have performed: While studies on dual-task performance in COPD patients are limited, the approach of combining cognitive tasks with physical rehabilitation is promising and has shown potential benefits in related fields.
