Evaluating D-dimer Levels for Diagnosing Adnexal Torsion
The Role of Preoperative D-dimer Levels in the Diagnosis of Adnexal Torsion in Children and Adolescents
IRCCS Burlo Garofolo · NCT06324565

What this trial studies
This observational study investigates the role of preoperative D-dimer levels in diagnosing adnexal torsion, a common gynecologic emergency affecting young females. It focuses on female patients under 18 years old who present with lower quadrant abdominal pain and imaging suggestive of torsion. The study aims to determine if D-dimer testing can improve diagnostic accuracy compared to traditional imaging methods. By analyzing the correlation between D-dimer levels and confirmed cases of adnexal torsion, the study seeks to enhance clinical decision-making.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are female patients under 18 years old presenting with lower quadrant abdominal pain and imaging suspicious for adnexal torsion.
Not a fit: Patients over 18 years old or those with clinical symptoms suggesting other surgical pathologies will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to more accurate and timely diagnoses of adnexal torsion in young females, potentially reducing complications and improving outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: While the use of D-dimer in other contexts has shown promise, this specific application in diagnosing adnexal torsion is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
