Evaluating CT scoring systems for pediatric trauma patients

Diagnostic Value of PePCI and ManTIS Scores in Whole-Body Computed Tomography (WBCT) Decision-Making for Pediatric Trauma Patients in the Emergency Department

Marmara University Pendik Training and Research Hospital · NCT06729528

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to assess the diagnostic value of whole-body computed tomography (WBCT) scores, specifically the Pediatric Polytrauma CT Indication Score (PePCI) and the Manchester Trauma Imaging Score (ManTIS), in pediatric trauma patients. The study will be conducted at Marmara University Pendik Training and Research Hospital in Türkiye and will focus on reducing unnecessary radiation exposure by evaluating the reliability and applicability of these scoring systems in a prospective manner. By analyzing trauma cases in real-time, the study seeks to improve decision-making regarding the need for CT scans in children, ultimately aiming to enhance patient safety and resource utilization.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are pediatric trauma patients presenting to the emergency department who require monitoring.

Not a fit: Patients who have previously participated in the study or those who refuse treatment before assessment will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could significantly reduce unnecessary radiation exposure in pediatric trauma patients while ensuring appropriate imaging is performed.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown the effectiveness of scoring systems in predicting the need for CT scans, but this prospective approach is novel in its application.

Eligibility criteria

Show full inclusion / exclusion criteria
Inclusion Criteria:

* All pediatric trauma patients who present to the emergency red zone or are deemed appropriate for monitoring in the red zone during their emergency department visit.
* Patients for whom consent to participate in the study is provided by their legal guardians (as children are not able to provide consent independently)

Exclusion Criteria:

* Patients who have previously been included in the study.
* Patients who refuse treatment before their assessment is completed or withdraw their consent to participate in the study.
* Patients with incomplete study data.
