What this trial studies

This study aims to assess the natural progression of coronary atherosclerosis in patients with diabetes mellitus using coronary computed tomographic angiography (CCTA). It involves evaluating patients who underwent initial CCTA at the Diabetes Center of the Asan Medical Center from February 2008 to June 2012, with follow-up CCTA based on physician orders. The study will collect demographic data, medical history, cardiovascular risk factors, and laboratory results to identify risk factors associated with coronary atherosclerosis in this population.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are asymptomatic patients aged 19 years or older with type 2 diabetes who had an initial CCTA at the Asan Medical Center.

Not a fit: Patients with significant renal impairment, a history of severe allergic reactions to contrast media, or those unable to undergo follow-up CCTA may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of coronary artery disease in diabetic patients, leading to better prevention and treatment strategies.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in evaluating coronary atherosclerosis in diabetic populations, indicating that this approach is supported by previous research.
