Evaluating changes in gum grafts around dental implants
Evaluation of the Three-dimensional Changes in Free Gingival Grafts Around Dental Implants

What this trial studies
This study aims to assess the stability of free gingival graft dimensions around dental implants, focusing on differences between smokers and non-smokers. It involves two groups of patients, each receiving free gingival grafts, with clinical measurements taken at multiple time points using an intraoral digital scanner. The study will evaluate wound healing and tissue stability over a six-month period, providing insights into the effects of smoking on graft stability.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include patients with healthy periodontal and peri-implant tissues who require free gingival grafts around dental implants and have less than 2 mm of keratinized gingiva.
Not a fit: Patients with systemic diseases affecting healing, uncontrolled diabetes, or active periodontal disease may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve the understanding of how smoking affects gum graft stability, leading to better treatment strategies for patients with insufficient keratinized gingiva.
How similar studies have performed: While there may be studies on gingival grafts, this specific comparison of smoker versus non-smoker outcomes is relatively novel.
