Evaluating brain fluid drainage in neuroinflammation and autism
Multi-signal Analysis of the Composition and Movement of Fluid in Various Cerebral Compartments in Healthy Subjects and Subjects With White Matter Pathology
IRCCS Eugenio Medea · NCT06432023

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to assess the dynamics of fluid movement and waste clearance in the brain using advanced magnetic resonance imaging techniques. It focuses on evaluating perfusion aspects with a gadolinium-based contrast medium, analyzing fluid flow in white matter, and characterizing lesions associated with neuroinflammation and autism spectrum disorder. The study seeks to clarify the mechanisms of neurofluid dynamics and the role of perivascular spaces and white matter hyperintensities in these conditions.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include patients with white matter lesions and/or enlarged perivascular spaces.
Not a fit: Patients with contraindications to MRI or contrast medium, clinically unstable conditions, tumors, or other significant health issues may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance our understanding of neuroinflammation and autism, potentially leading to improved diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.
How similar studies have performed: While the study employs established MRI techniques, the specific focus on neurofluid dynamics in the context of autism and neuroinflammation is relatively novel.
