What this trial studies
This observational study aims to assess the safety, efficacy, and tolerability of bowel preparation and colonoscopy in patients with chronic heart disease, chronic kidney disease, and chronic liver disease. Eligible adult patients will undergo bowel preparation using a split-dose polyethylene glycol solution before their scheduled colonoscopy. The study will classify patients based on their specific chronic conditions and monitor various outcomes, including the adequacy of bowel preparation and any post-procedural complications. Routine blood investigations will also be conducted to ensure patient safety throughout the process.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults over 18 years with chronic heart disease, chronic kidney disease, or chronic liver disease scheduled for elective colonoscopy.
Not a fit: Patients under 18 years, those with bowel obstruction, known allergies to PEG, or requiring emergency colonoscopies may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve the safety and effectiveness of bowel preparation in patients with chronic diseases undergoing colonoscopy.
How similar studies have performed: While similar studies have explored bowel preparation in various populations, this specific approach in patients with multiple chronic conditions is relatively novel.
