What this trial studies

This study investigates the feasibility and quality of blood sampling from a previously used peripheral intravenous catheter (PIVC) line. It aims to determine the effectiveness of the blood withdrawal technique after the line has been used for fluid infusion. Conducted at King Fahad University Hospital, the study will involve healthy adult volunteers, excluding pediatric and critically ill patients. Blood samples will be collected before and after fluid infusion to analyze the quality of the samples obtained.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are healthy adult volunteers who require intravenous access.

Not a fit: Patients who are pediatric or critically ill will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could reduce the need for multiple needle insertions, minimizing patient discomfort and risk of complications.

How similar studies have performed: While similar approaches have been explored, this specific evaluation of blood sampling from pre-existing PIVC lines is relatively novel.
